No. Sorrento is on the north side of the Sorrentine Peninsula, facing the Gulf of Naples. It is a practical base for Amalfi Coast trips, but Positano and Amalfi are separate towns reached by boat or road.
Most ferries and excursion boats use Marina Piccola below the town centre. Marina Grande is the smaller fishing quarter and also hosts some local boat departures, so check the exact meeting point.
Not a long conventional city beach. The centre sits on a high tuff cliff; much of the waterfront uses bathing platforms. Marina Grande has a small shore, while Bagni Regina Giovanna is a rocky natural swimming place.
Yes. Capri is one of the shortest major boat trips from Sorrento. A tour can add an island circuit and pickup, while ordinary ferries offer more independence. Blue Grotto access is never guaranteed because sea state and queues decide it.
The Circumvesuviana connects Sorrento with Pompei Scavi, so independent travel is realistic. A guided trip is useful when you want interpretation, fixed logistics, or Pompeii and Vesuvius combined in one day.
Popular Capri and Amalfi Coast departures can fill in high season. Booking early secures a choice, but check cancellation terms and leave weather flexibility for boat days. Road journeys can be slow when the coast road is congested.
